Assure June Loan Payment
Made
The
Friends of Del Mar
Parks have made an
additional
transfer of $30,000
to help cover the
City’s
June 30 loan payment
on the acquisition
of Del Mar Shores
Park.
The
Friends have now forwarded
$163,000 in addition
to the initial $5,140,000
contributed to close
escrow on the property
in May 2008. Payments
by the City have totaled
$199,000, with approximately
$19,000 being advanced
from the Open Space
fund. The Council is
beginning to explore
alternate financing
plans so payments on
the property will
not
impact the City’s
operating budget.
Friends’ President
Joe Sullivan reiterated
at the June 15 City
Council workshop that
the Friends continue
to raise funds throughout
the community, and despite
the economic downturn,
receive contributions
weekly. A total of 469
families have made contributions
to the Campaign. The
Friends’ immediate
goal is to raise the
$28,944 required for
the City’s
August 15 payment.
The
community vision
for
Del Mar Shores Park
includes community
gardens, playing
fields,
enhanced tot lot,
fenced
dog area, basketball
court, benches and
picnic tables. The
park will share facilities
with The Winston
School.
Community members
interested
in more information
on opportunities
to
name any of these
park
features with a memorial
gift should contact
the Friends at 858-481-4201
or www.delmarshores.org.
